CRAFTS ON THE CORNER 2010

Hooray! Last weekend I was in my first ever crafts fair in Bolivar, TN! I set out everything Abstract Energy Studios had to offer: my food jewelry, ArtCandles, and acrylic paintings! It was a fun time and a great start for my fledgling business! I will definitely be back next year!

My new favorite meal!

Call me weird. But I think I'm on to something with this.

You know how sushi originated from bits of fish being "accidentally" mixed with rice?

Well I have concocted some type of sushi 2.0 with fruit (no fish involved with this mixture, don't start to get grossed out), brown rice, and vanilla soy milk.

For some reason I find this mixture so delicious and good! It eats like cold cereal with the warmth and creamy texture of oatmeal. It might be a bland for some (because I don't add sugar to anything if I can help it), but I find that the vanilla soy milk adds just the right amount of sweetness. Here's what I do if any of you brave souls would like to try it:

1. cook some boil-in-bag brown rice in the microwave for 10 minutes
2. While the rice is still hot, add some fresh blueberries and mix in.
3. Then pour some vanilla soy milk over the rice like cereal.

optional: heat everything up again so the milk will be warm.

To me this tastes like a blueberry muffin. I bet it would be wonderful with some whole grain oats.

HUGE mug-a-coffee!!!

Okay..not sure on the size of this thing, but I just filled a canister with coffee and I am now proceeding to drink it. Hopefully this will not make me too jittery for my next two classes, but in all honesty it probably will.

Yoshi and I spent last night playing tennis and discussing philosophy. Oh, how I have always loved philosophy. In my younger years I devoted entire blogs to the subject, but alas, I am now what they call a "closet philosopher". Who knows? Maybe I will resurrect the notion here on this little bloggy. After all, isn't the "art of living" a philosophy in itself? Let's see what I can do...

If you haven't checked out my new business website by now, you really should! Just click here!
I make cute food jewelry out of polymer :)

Here's one of my handmade necklaces I wore today. It's so fun to wear these things because you always get questioned about them- they're just so different! :) Anyways, here's two pics of my Neapolitan Ice Cream Cone necklace:
It also comes as a little cell phone or camera charm too!

Toodles everyone!

You can have one too, just ask! I make them into earrings and necklaces as well. :)

Hope everyone is looking forward to a happy fall! I know I am.

Texas Day 6

Thursday- Breakfast at Aunt Ruby's- chocolate gravy with biscuits, eggs, and bacon. Skating sucked at first- tons of kids scattered like mines in a minefield. One tripped me then laughed about it (annoying). One by one the kids left and I got the owner to play 1920's Big Band music. It was so fun and happy. Then we had fuddrucker's! (Weinerschnitzel for lunch) Afterwards Yosh and I watched anime (MAR to be exact). We're having a Krispy Kreme donut off the hotlight for the first time tonight (sadly this did not happen). Tomorrow we leave for Abilene!

Texas Day 5

Woke up around 10:30 am and went to Red Lobster with the whole family. They really liked me! Going skating tomorrow and looking forward to some Amish friendship bread. Yoshi and I got into a huge fight and Mimi and Aunt Ruby worked everything out perfectly! By the end of the night we made up.

Texas Day 4

Tuesday- Nothing but trampoline and an excess of food. At night I noticed flashes of light from my window. I opened the blinds to see that it was lightning, too far away for me to even hear. It lit up the clouds in blue and purple with a white glow. I stayed up just watching and fell asleep that way. It was soothing, to say the least.

Texas Day 3

Yoshi and I decide to skip out on going to the lake with everyone and sleep in at Darla's. We had a restful day visiting the massive Barnes & Noble, Lubbock Mall, and enjoying my first Whataburger, Whatadrink, and Whatafries. Everyone is so friendly here! I noticed that in Texas, everyone loves Texas, but in Tennessee everyone is so pissed. Later that day Yosh taught me some daring tricks on the trampoline ( I was very scared but I did it and I am so proud), and PawPaw (yet again adopted) took us out to Hong Kong Buffet! Delish! Stayed up late drawing a cute pin-up elf girl (I gave it to Yoshi but I need to get it back so I can post it here- its really cute) and chatting with Yosh.

Texas Day 2

Wake up early and go to flea market. There was quite a racial difference here in Texas rather than in Tennessee. More Mexican folks and Asians than African-American. It was enjoyable to experience the different mix of cultures at the flea market. I also got a 5-pack of colorful bras for just 15 bucks! Then we went to the peddler's market at the civic center. I must have been adopted into the family because Josh's grandma, "Mimi", bought me nearly $200 dollars worth of clothes and good things. I have a new grandma! The new clothes I got were possibly the nicest, finest things I have ever owned for myself. I saw Bree again, we played Apples to Apples with the family (my first time) and I won every game!

Texas Family Reunion Day 1

Yoshi's family invited me to tag along on their annual Texas reunion. Super exciting! So like any good blogger, I documented the trip day by day! Here we go!

Day 1, arrival in Lubbock, Texas

Arrival after 14 hour travel. I fill up my water bottle and realize the water tastes like blood. This makes me slightly sick and for the rest of the trip I must now drink bottled water. I meet Bree and various other cousins. We are staying with Yoshi's aunt and uncle and her three boys.

Mural Updates

Here's how the mural is going so far...I've got the hands painted now, but alas i didn't think to get a snapshot.

Pig Bride Cosplay Project

So, at the end of the year the art department gets together and has a huge masquerade/feast/awards show. I've been currently reading a wonderful manwha series called "Pig Bride", so for my masquerade costume I decided to go Cosplay! I will upload pics of my full costume when I get them (they are on other people's cameras, how pesky), but here is Mu Yeon's mask I made out of rigid wrap. (I forgot the red dot on the forehead, I'm fixing it! lol)

unpainted^

finished!^

Up and Up Dates!

The mural is coming along nicely, I worked on it earlier today before I went to poetry class, which I just got released from :)

I'm holding a new coffee house at my church this month, and Yoshi turned 20 yesterday!!!

Here's a picture of the delicious cake I made him! (his favorite flavor is strawberry- it's strawberry soda pop cake!)

Mural Commission!

Currently drinking: coffee

Status: The coffee house was a complete success! We raised 103 dollars for the church! I will hold another coffee house event probably around May, it will be even better!

In other news:

I've been chosen to paint a mural in the main Sanctuary of our church! I'm so excited! I'm about to leave in about thirty minutes to start on it. It will be covered up until I'm finished and there will be a "great unveiling" of it to the congregation! This is totally exciting. With the pastor's direction and the help of faithful Yoshi I created the church's logo in corel and photoshop, which I have posted below. Now that the pastor has informed me I will be painting the image in the church's sanctuary, I can't wait to get started! Hopefully in two weeks time I will be finished with it and I will post some pics of the "great unveiling" haha.

I believe the explanation is "the hands of the father, overshadowed by the Holy Spirit, making manifest the glory of Christ"- HAVEN OF HOPE

Cuteness

Here is a cute little picture of Yoshi and I on our fantasy wedding day lol

This is my first attempt at Corel Painter and using a Wacom tablet as well :)

I think it would be cute to animate this somehow.

Enjoy

Church Business

Church let out a little while ago, since then I've been painting my masks and hanging out upstairs at Yoshi's house. ::sigh:: I dislike Sundays, not because of church of course, but because it's just a reminder of Mondays...

Anyways, Yoshi is aggravating me so much making it impossible to type so I'll post later.

Dream Wedding Idea Board

This is an idea board for my dream wedding! Red-orange and golden yellow color scheme, with a fusion of Asia (including India, folks). Of course, I can't get away from notion of a vintage pure white dress. Last but not least we can't forget the all-meaningful Konfetti roses (which I have not disclosed the meaning to yet ;D) Enjoy, and feel free to be inspired for your own dream wedding! This scheme would look smashing in fall or winter!

Cruise Control

So right now I'm at Yoshi's place. We're installing cruise control in his awesome Honda Del Sol (it's a two seater, and I hold the coveted second seat right next to my dearest). If you cannot tell by the post, it's very late. Why this sacrifice, you ask? Well, its because next month we're taking a trip to Florida to visit his childhood friend and stay with his family. Cruise control will make that loong journey so much easier. Haha. I'm stoked about going to Florida with my Yoshi! It will be our first "official" vacation together!
My spring break is nearing the end, and soon I will be back in college life once more. Thankfully I've already finished preparing for the creative writing presentation that's due first day back Monday!

Ah..nothing like the morning routine

By morning, mind you, I mean any time I wake up! So today my "morning routine" took place at 12:00 pm. I find it funny that no matter what time it is, I still do the same thing when first waking up. I doubt any of you are much different. How many people wake up at noon and want a burger and fries? Not me. I want cereal. Or eggs and bacon. Or this morning, "porridge".

My morning begins with swallowing two NutriFeron vitamins that my boyfriend's mom gave me, then venturing downstairs. I perform my daily hygiene activities, then it's into the kitchen with my kitty (who is not allowed downstairs but Daddy is at work by now). I fill up my 2.2 liter water bottle (a full recommended 8 glasses in one bottle!) and dilute into it 2 tablespoons of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar. During this I also down a BodyMint tablet, a vitamin D tablet, and a generic children's vitamin called "Zippy Zoo" (yes I am a vitamin junkie). Some days I'll throw in an Iron tablet for good measure. I'll then begin boiling water on the stove for tea primarily (if I don't eat cereal that morning, I'll use it for oatmeal or something.)

This morning I made a pleasant cup of Rainforest Lemon Myrtle Yerba Green Tea (which tastes like a fresh green strand of lemongrass) and a hot bowl of porridge(my recipe below). I take immense pleasure in the little things, which I'm sure someone's already written a book about.

After all that it's usually time to either go to school, work, or on the best days, sit at home!

Mook's Porridge Recipe
the favorite of Baby Bear and Goldilocks

1/2 cup of grits

1/2 cup of oats

Butter, to taste

Sugar, to taste

Optional: Fresh blueberries and chopped dates

Instructions: pour boiling water over mixture, stir and enjoy immensely.

Bristol Board Wedding Cake

This is a delicious looking wedding cake I created using Bristol Board and Spackle. The decorations are ribbon and lace. My boyfriend's mom actually thought it was the real thing!

Holy Grounds Coffee House

In an effort to raise money for my church, I've started up a coffee house event to take place at the end of this month.

There will be poetry, live music, and open mic all in a chic loft atmosphere.

Coffee and tea will be served, including some of my specialty coffee recipes lol (hey I make a mean Fauxbucks frapp)

Menu (so far):

Average Joe: regular ole coffee

Slo Joe: decaffeinated

Mayan Coffee: spicy whipped chocolate

Nilla Eclair: vanilla ice cream blended

Creamy Chino: whipped cream blended

Mocha: chocolate blended

try any of our selections ICED!

Lol! Hopefully we get a good turnout and we can raise some money for our (time being) small-congregation church! Will post pics later!

The Taylor Swift Guitar Project

This is a guitar that Yoshi and I worked on for a little girl's birthday present. At the time this was our pastor's daughter, so we really wanted to make it special for her. With Yoshi's help, her parents chose a great guitar, but there was still concern. "Kristina absolutely loves Taylor Swift and wants a guitar just like hers. We can't afford to find one like it." I had an idea that we could *make* this guitar into a Taylor-esque replica. This project was a lot of hard work for us but we felt proud having created a little girl's dream guitar.

The result is a super sparkle guitar with "Kristina" emblazoned in purple on the edge

.

This kid couldn't be happier!

Crafty Pics and Valentine Flowers

This is the Valentine's Day Present for Yoshi I mentioned. I used Sculpey Superflex to make everything, and these lil doll replicas of Yoshi, me and our kitty Ambrosia (whom you can see real life in a few pics) now sit happily atop his new hand-built computer :-)

From Yoshi I got all new paint supplies including brushes, pallette and a carrying case, plus these beautiful flowers! The yellow red tipped roses are very special to our relationship, but that's a story for another blog!
